Former Manchester City Player Benjamin Mendy Found Not Guilty of Rape Charges. A British court has acquitted ex-Manchester City footballer Benjamin Mendy of one count of rape and one count of attempted rape.
Mendy, 28, wept upon hearing the jury’s verdicts at Chester Crown Court in northwest England. In January, he was also found not guilty of six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.
Mendy consistently denied the charges, asserting that the encounters were consensual. Following a three-week trial, the jury deliberated for over three hours before reaching their decision.
Mendy, who joined Manchester City from AS Monaco in 2017, was under investigation by the police after 13 women accused him and co-defendant Louis Saha Matturie.
Manchester City suspended Mendy in August 2021 and subsequently released him when his contract expired last month.
