According to US media outlets, an autopsy report has revealed that Tori Bowie, a US Olympic champion sprinter, died from complications related to childbirth. Bowie, who won three medals at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games, was found dead last month at the age of 32.
The report states that she was approximately eight months pregnant and showing signs of labor when she was discovered. The autopsy report indicated possible complications, including respiratory distress and eclampsia.
The report concluded that her death was natural. Bowie’s agent expressed hope that the truth would put an end to hurtful speculations surrounding her death. The high maternal mortality rate among Black women in the US was highlighted, with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reporting a rate almost three times higher than that of white women.
Bowie, a talented athlete, had a significant impact on the sport of track and field and will be deeply missed.
