Instagram’s Threads App Surpasses 100 Million Users in Under Five Days. Data tracking websites reported on Monday that Instagram’s Threads app, launched as a competitor to Twitter, has garnered over 100 million users in less than five days, setting a new record for the fastest-growing consumer app, surpassing AI tool ChatGPT.
While ChatGPT and TikTok took months to reach the same milestone, Instagram itself took over two years since its launch in 2010.
Threads became available in 100 countries last Wednesday on Apple and Android app stores, excluding Europe due to uncertainties surrounding data privacy legislation.
Despite Twitter’s estimated 200 million regular users, it has faced technical issues and user backlash since being purchased by Elon Musk, who has introduced charges for previously free services and reinstated banned accounts.
Threads benefits from its connection to Instagram, which boasts over one billion regular users, giving it an advantage in scaling its user base.
