Two prominent tech billionaires, Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, have agreed to face off in a cage match, according to recent reports. Musk took to Twitter, expressing his willingness to engage in a cage fight with Zuckerberg.
Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, responded by sharing a screenshot of Musk’s tweet and requesting the location. A Meta spokesperson simply stated, “The story speaks for itself,” when asked about the situation by the BBC.
Musk replied to Zuckerberg’s response, suggesting Las Vegas as the venue by mentioning the Octagon, the fenced area used for UFC fights. In a somewhat lighthearted tone, Musk shared tweets about his unconventional fighting moves and shared videos related to walruses, implying a playful aspect to his challenge.
Meanwhile, Zuckerberg, 39, has already been training in mixed martial arts (MMA) and has recently achieved success in jiu-jitsu tournaments. Twitter declined to comment on the matter when approached by the BBC.
These exchanges have generated significant buzz on social media, with users speculating about the potential outcome of the match and creating amusing memes and posters. Some individuals, such as business consultant Seyi Taylor, have shared images of the two tech giants, encouraging others to choose their fighter.
Fight sports journalist Nick Peet believes that Dana White, the president of UFC, would be excited about the prospect of organizing this fight. Peet suggests that the bout could actually take place, citing Musk’s personality and eccentric character, as he has shown a reluctance to back down from challenges.
However, when asked about the likely winner, Peet leans towards Zuckerberg due to his younger age, smaller stature, and 18-month experience in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Despite Musk’s lack of training, Peet humorously describes a potential scenario where Zuckerberg could overpower him with a “good old cuddle and choke him out.”
Musk has a history of making non-serious statements or promises that do not come to fruition, such as appointing his dog as CEO of Twitter and his plans for a hyperloop transportation system. In the tech world, Meta recently shared plans for a text-based social network, potentially posing a greater challenge to Musk’s Twitter than other platforms like BlueSky or Mastodon.
