A Russian-speaking cybercriminal group has claimed responsibility for a major hack that targeted the BBC, British Airways, and other companies. Known as the CLOP ransomware gang, they have threatened to release hacked data if a ransom is not paid by June 14.
The incident has sparked urgent responses from cybersecurity officials in the US, UK, and Canada. The breach occurred through a human resources firm called Zellis, which is used by the BBC and British Airways.
The hackers exploited a vulnerability in a widely used file-transfer software called MOVEit. Efforts to address the hack are still ongoing, and the full extent of the data theft and its consequences are yet to be fully understood.
