The suspect’s identity, including gender, remains undisclosed, and details about the victims and their connection to the university were not provided. The surviving victim is in stable condition.

Sheriff Kevin McMahill of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported that panic attacks occurred among several people during the chaos, and some officers sustained minor injuries during the campus-wide search for additional victims or suspects, though none were found.

The incident began around 11:45 a.m. on the fourth floor of Beam Hall, housing the university’s business school, and eventually moved to other floors before concluding outside, where the suspect was fatally shot by campus police. The university will remain closed at least until Friday.

While official details are still limited, Professor Vincent Perez described hearing multiple loud gunshots before taking cover.

He emphasized the real and active threat of the situation. UNLV, situated near the Las Vegas Strip, has an enrollment of approximately 25,000 undergraduates and 8,000 post-graduates and doctoral candidates.

The sheriff commended the heroic actions of responding police officers, preventing potential additional casualties. The incident evoked memories of the 2017 Las Vegas mass shooting, where 60 people were killed and hundreds injured during a music festival on the Strip.
